St. Patrick’s Day in Stockholm this year was more than a cultural celebration—it was a valuable moment for connection, insight, and business development for QS Konsult in the Nordic market.
Hosted at the Embassy of Ireland in Stockholm, the Ireland Nordic Forum—led by Declan Caulfield and the Irish Chamber of Commerce in Sweden—brought together a highly influential audience spanning government, infrastructure, construction, and international business.
It was a privilege to engage with distinguished guests including Minister Emer Higgins TD and Ambassador Barbara Jones, alongside a strong network of Irish and Nordic industry leaders shaping the future of the built environment.
Positioning QS Konsult in a New Market
A key theme throughout the event was the challenge—and opportunity—of introducing new ways of thinking into established industries.
For QS Konsult, this directly reflects our experience in Sweden.
Quantity Surveying, as a defined professional function, is still emerging in the Swedish market. This presents both a challenge and a clear opportunity:
- Identifying value where it is not yet fully recognised
- Building trust through delivery and clarity
- Bridging Irish and Nordic approaches to cost, risk, and project control
These are not theoretical concepts—they are the foundations of how we operate day-to-day.

Lessons from Industry Leaders
The keynote and panel discussions reinforced several realities that align closely with QS Konsult’s approach.
Insights shared by Noel McCleave (Fluor Corporation) and Karin Angus (Enterprise Ireland), alongside a well-guided discussion by Patrick Hamilton Walsh (Salboheds), highlighted:
- The scale of infrastructure and data centre investment across the Nordics
- The increasing complexity of project delivery
- The need for transparency and control in cost and risk management
- The importance of cross-border collaboration and understanding
For QS Konsult, these discussions validate a core belief:
As projects grow in scale and complexity, the need for independent cost and risk expertise becomes essential—not optional.
Building Trust Across Irish–Nordic Business Culture

One of the most valuable aspects of the day was the openness of discussion and willingness to share perspectives across markets.
Operating between Irish and Nordic business environments requires more than technical expertise—it requires:
- Cultural understanding
- Clear communication
- Consistency in delivery
- Long-term relationship building
Trust is not established through words, but through clarity, reliability, and results.
This is central to how QS Konsult is building its presence in Sweden.
Strengthening Networks, Creating Opportunity
Events like the Ireland Nordic Forum are critical in strengthening relationships and opening doors for collaboration.
They provide a platform to:
- Connect with decision-makers across sectors
- Understand market direction and investment trends
- Position QS Konsult within major upcoming projects
- Build partnerships that support long-term growth
With significant investment continuing across infrastructure, energy, and data centres in the Nordics, the opportunity for structured cost and risk management services is clear.
Beyond the Boardroom
The day concluded at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, marking 80 years of Swedish–Irish diplomacy through a shared cultural celebration.
Bringing together ministers, diplomats, business leaders, and the Irish community in Sweden, it was a powerful reminder that strong business relationships are built on shared understanding and connection—not just transactions.
Looking Ahead
For QS Konsult, this event reinforced our role in a changing construction landscape.
As the Nordic market continues to evolve, our focus remains clear:
- Deliver clarity in cost and risk
- Support better decision-making across projects
- Act as a trusted, independent partner
- Strengthen Irish–Nordic collaboration in construction
The conversations started in Stockholm are only the beginning.
